Clanranald Armorial Stone   Clach Chlann ‘ic Aileann   The   panel   came   from   an   ancient religious settlement at Howmore, the most  ancient  Church   site  in  South Uist, and was thought to have been originally built into the wall of one of the Chapels.    As the Chapel fell into disrepair, the panel was left lying against a remaining wall in  the graveyard.

On 30 April 1965, 50 years ago today, these arms were matriculated in name of Roderick Hector Macdonald, OBE, of Pymble, New South Wales, Australia. Macdonald was a surgeon whose father was born on on the Isle of Benbecula and died in Brisbane, Queensland, in 1940.
